Replace Shower Valve

Replacing a shower faucet valve can be divided into two phases.

Use a utility knife to remove the protective cap from the shower valve handle. Turn the screws on the shut off valves to the right to stop the flow of water. Using needlenose pliers remove the valve clip and pull the valve out of the wall.
A traditional type of shower valve is the mixing valve designed to draw water to the shower head from the hot and cold taps. Press the new escutcheon plate over the valve and secure it with the screws provided. Unscrew and remove the handle.
For pricing and availability. A mixing valve cannot regulate sudden changes in water pressure so someone showering runs a risk of getting scalded if a sink toilet or washer unexpectedly draws cold water. Attach the new handle to the valve.
