How To Install Shower Tile

Before you start setting tile take some measurements and see how the tiles will all lay out image 1.

Install full piece tiles first and fill in with cut pieces as you go or install them at the end. Have a professional install a shower membrane and shower pan appropriate for the space. That way if you do have to cut tile to fit they ll be at the bottom where the tub or shower pan might be slightly out of level.

Attach a straight board to the backer board along the line. Adjust alcove width for full field tiles. If the shower base is uneven tiles will have to be cut to fit the last row.

Save time by setting several tiles at once. When installing cut pieces apply the thinset to the back of each tile. If you wait to install the cut pieces use a notched trowel to scrape the thinset from the wall so it doesn t dry before installation.
